Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in the 400 block of Dartmouth Avenue, near Lincoln Way. The crash involved an unoccupied vehicle and no injuries were reported. When the police arrived, it was determined that the car had been parked in the borough hall parking lot; the driver had failed to engage the car’s emergency brake; as a result, the car had rolled out of the parking space and into the outdoor eating parklets at Aria restaurant. The car sustained minor damage and was able to be driven from the scene. Minor damage to the parklets was noted.

the police were dispatched to the intersection of South Chester Road and Yale Avenue responding to a motor vehicle crash that involved two cars. Officers confirmed that no occupants were injured because of the collision. After investigating, it was determined that one car had been traveling east on Yale Avenue, and entered the intersection with South Chester Road. At the same time a second car had been traveling west on Yale Ave. and tried to make a left turn to head south on South Chester Road, turning in front of the eastbound car. The two cars collided in the middle of the intersection and were pushed over to the far southeast, according to traffic standards. Both cars had to be removed from the scene by a tow truck.

Police went to the 100 block of S. Chester Rd. in response to a report of a motor vehicle crash; there were no reported injuries. When the police arrived, both cars were pulled to the side of the road. The officer on the scene investigated, and determined that one of the cars had been traveling south on S. Chester Rd., when the driver reportedly became distracted, swerved into the northbound lane, and struck the rear driver’s side of a northbound car. Both cars sustained minor damage but were able to be driven from the scene.

Police responded to the Strath Haven and Rutgers avenues for a motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles. At the completion of the investigation, it was determined that one car was traveling east on Strath Haven Ave. crossing the intersection with Rutgers Ave. The driver of this car became distracted, and struck an unoccupied, parked car on Rutgers Ave., just east of the intersection. There were no injuries reported but the striking car had to be towed from the scene because of front end damage.

A truck was backing up on the 200 block of Elm Avenue when the top of its passenger-side cabin struck a large tree limb, breaking it from the tree. The truck was able to be driven from the scene. No one was hurt.

Two cars were traveling east on the 1100 block of Baltimore Pike (near the intersection with Riverview Road) when they stopped for a red light. When the light turned green, both cars started to move. But the front car stopped again, and the second car struck it — then left the scene. The driver of the second car was stopped by police a short time later on Woodlyn Avenue in Morton. No one was hurt, and neither car was significantly damaged.

While on routine patrol, police came upon the scene of a hit-and-run accident that had just occurred in the 600 block of Swarthmore Avenue. The driver of a black pickup truck was identified as the culprit, and a description of the truck was relayed to other officers.

Police were called to the 100 block of Guernsey Road where a large tree had fallen, damaging a house. No one was hurt.

Police received a notification from the department’s license plate reader alerting them to a stolen car in the area. After confirming the validity of the notification, officers pursued a Ford Escape, stopping it on Route 320 north of Baltimore Pike.

A car heading east on Dartmouth Avenue was turning left onto Swarthmore Avenue when it hit a car already traveling north on Swarthmore Avenue. Medics treated a minor injury at the scene. One car had to be towed.

During a routine patrol near the intersection of Fairview and South Chester roads, an officer’s license plate reader alerted him to the presence of a potentially stolen car. After confirming that the car was stolen from Springfield Township, the officer stopped the driver, who was arrested and transported to the Swarthmore police station for processing. She will receive a preliminary hearing in Media District Court. Enterprise Car Rental reported the car stolen last October.

A car backing out of an angled parking space in the 100 block of Park Avenue collided with a car travelling south. Both cars sustained minor damage but could be driven from the scene. No one was hurt.

Two cars traveling eastbound on Baltimore Pike waited for the light at North Chester Road to turn green. When the light changed, the rear car started moving first, striking the front car. When the police arrived, the driver of the front car complained of back and neck pain. The driver of the rear car, Andre Borican Jr. of Clifton Heights, smelled of alcohol and was given several field sobriety tests. After failing to properly complete them, he was placed under arrest, processed, and released pending a preliminary hearing. The struck (front) car had to be towed.

A car driving east on Dartmouth Avenue stopped at the stop sign at Swarthmore Avenue and then attempted to turn right. Meanwhile, a second car, driving north on Swarthmore Avenue, tried to turn left onto Dartmouth Avenue and struck the first car. No one was hurt, but both cars had to be towed.

Two cars were driving south on South Chester Road approaching Fairview Road when the front car stopped for the red traffic light. The second car failed to stop in time and hit the first car. No one was hurt, and both cars were driven from the scene.

A resident of the 600 block of North Chester Road called the police because they saw two men inside the resident’s cars. The men were of unknown race and wearing dark clothing, and were last seen entering a white sedan and driving toward Baltimore Pike. Nothing was taken, and no damage occurred. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Swarthmore Borough Police.

Several cars were broken into on the nights of September 30, October 2, and October 9 on the 100 block of Guernsey Road, the 600 block of Parrish Road, the 300 block of Elm Avenue, the 300 block of Maple Avenue, and the 200 block of Benjamin West Avenue. Change and small items were taken. Residents are reminded to lock their cars.

Officers met with a resident who reported that his car, parked in the driveway of a house in the 500 block of Walnut Lane, had been broken into earlier that morning. A white female had been seen walking up the driveway, entering the car, and removing unknown items.
