Accidents

  • On June 30, at 9:00 a.m., the police went to the 100 block of S. Chester Rd. in response to a report of a motor vehicle crash; there were no reported injuries. When the police arrived, both cars were pulled to the side of the road. The officer on the scene investigated, and determined that one of the cars had been traveling south on S. Chester Rd., when the driver reportedly became distracted, swerved into the northbound lane, and struck the rear driver’s side of a northbound car. Both cars sustained minor damage but were able to be driven from the scene.

  • On June 30, at 9:45 a.m., the police went to the intersection of Swarthmore Ave. and S. Morton Ave. in response to a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries. Both drivers were complaining of minor pain; medics were summoned, and they provided treatment at the scene. Both drivers declined to pursue follow-up care. Police investigated and determined that one car  had been traveling north on S. Morton Ave. and approaching the intersection with Swarthmore Ave., while the other car had been traveling east on Swarthmore Ave. and approaching the same intersection. An independent witness confirmed that the car traveling on S. Morton Ave. had failed to stop for a solid red traffic signal as it entered the intersection, and that it struck the eastbound car on the driver’s side front fender. Damage to both cars was significant; both cars were inoperable and were removed from the scene by Dean Keys Towing.

  • On July 3, at 11:55 a.m., the police were dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Yale Ave. and S. Chester Rd. Police found that there were no injuries and that the crash involved one car. The driver described traveling north on S. Chester Rd. making a right turn onto Yale Ave., “overcorrecting” (pulling the car too far to the right shoulder) and striking a street sign. This collision damaged the front end of the car enough that it had to be towed from the scene.

Service Alarms

The police responded to nine alarm calls, including false burglar alarms, fire alarms, and panic alarms.

Medical Emergencies

The police responded to 10 medical emergencies and assisted other responders—medics and the Swarthmore ambulance service—who had also arrived to help.
