Accidents

• October 1, 8:14 a.m.: A car was heading west on Baltimore Pike, approaching the light at Route 320, when the driver decided to make a U-turn in the intersection. In the process, it struck the side of an eastbound car. One car had to be towed. No one was injured.

• October 1, 10:50 a.m.: A car driving on Cornell Avenue struck the side mirror of a parked, unoccupied car. The owner of the parked car was notified. Neither vehicle required towing, and no one was hurt.

Other

Several cars were broken into on the nights of September 30, October 2, and October 9 on the 100 block of Guernsey Road, the 600 block of Parrish Road, the 300 block of Elm Avenue, the 300 block of Maple Avenue, and the 200 block of Benjamin West Avenue. Change and small items were taken. Residents are reminded to lock their cars.

Students are returning to school, and the police would like to remind motorists to pay attention to increased car and pedestrian traffic, as well as parking regulations, near Swarthmore-Rutledge School. 

Alarms

Police responded to six alarm calls, including fire alarms, panic alarms, and false burglar alarms.

Medical Emergencies

Police responded to eight medical emergencies, assisting medics and the Swarthmore ambulance.
