Accidents

• April 1, 6:11 p.m.: While on routine patrol, police came upon the scene of a hit-and-run accident that had just occurred in the 600 block of Swarthmore Avenue. The driver of a black pickup truck was identified as the culprit, and a description of the truck was relayed to other officers. The truck was soon located on Cedar Lane at the intersection with Baltimore Pike. When officers engaged with the driver, he got angry and behaved aggressively. Determining that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol, officers arrested him. A preliminary hearing is scheduled in Media District Court. All three cars involved in the accident had to be towed, but no one was hurt in the crash.

• April 2, 2:46 p.m.: A car driving north on Cedar Lane was stopped for backed-up traffic at a red light at the intersection with Baltimore Pike when it was passed and sideswiped by a silver sedan. The sedan continued without stopping and turned left onto Baltimore Pike. The hit vehicle was driven from the scene, and no one was hurt. Police are investigating.

• April 2, 7:46 p.m.: Two vehicles were traveling east on Baltimore Pike when the car in front stopped for a red light. The second vehicle — a white Toyota pickup truck — failed to stop and struck the rear of the first car, which pulled to the side of the road. The pickup kept going and turned right on Oakdale Avenue. A witness reported the license plate number of the truck, and the owner was identified as a resident of Bear, Delaware. A preliminary hearing will be held in Media District Court. The hit vehicle was driven from the scene, and no one was hurt.

Police responded to nine alarm calls, including fire alarms, panic alarms, and false burglar alarms.
