May 2, 8:05 a.m.: A car driving south on Swarthmore Avenue passed Wellesley Road, then drifted to the right and struck a telephone pole. The car sustained damage to its front bumper and hood and had to be towed from the scene. No one was hurt.
Other
Between April 12 and 28, the police department conducted speed checks using its electronic non-radar device (ENRADD), which determines how fast vehicles are moving. During that time, 95 cars were stopped for speed-limit violations.
The Swarthmore Borough Police Department reminds motorists that driving at excessive speed is dangerous. The faster you drive, the more likely you are to be in an accident — and if you are in an accident, higher speeds result in more severe injuries and damage.
The Police Department intends to conduct more random speed checks throughout Swarthmore and Rutledge in the coming months.
Alarms
Police responded to 12 alarm calls, including fire alarms, panic alarms, and false burglar alarms.
Medical Emergencies
Police responded to 16 medical emergencies, assisting medics and the Swarthmore ambulance.
