On August 12 at 8:35 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Yale and Rutgers avenues for an accident with possible injuries. The officers’ investigation and statements from both operators showed that the driver of a car traveling north on Rutgers Ave. attempted to cross over Yale Ave., thinking that Yale Ave. traffic had a stop sign. As the car pulled out of Rutgers Ave., it was struck by the car traveling east on Yale Ave. Both cars sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene. The operator of the car traveling on Yale Ave. suffered a minor injury to her arm, and was transported to Springfield Hospital for follow-up care.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of S. Chester Rd. and Westdale Ave. for a motor vehicle crash that had just occurred. Upon officers’ arrival, one vehicle was lodged in the shrubs that line the property of 306 S. Chester Rd. Witness statements, operator statements, and further investigation showed that one car was driving west on Westdale Ave., and attempted to pull out onto S. Chester Rd.

On June 24 at 4:35 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Baltimore Pike and Oakdale Ave., for an accident that had just occurred. After evaluation, none of the drivers sustained any injuries. It was determined through investigation that the striking vehicle was traveling east on Baltimore Pike, in the outer lane of travel, approaching stopped traffic including a car directly in front of it. The striking car failed to stop in time, running into the rear bumper of the stopped car, and causing minor damage to both vehicles. Both cars were able to be driven from the scene.

On June 19 at 10:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of S. Chester Road and Strathhaven Avenue for an accident that had just occurred. After evaluation, both drivers were found to have minor injuries. It was determined through investigation that the vehicle traveling on Strathhaven Ave. was attempting to cross over S. Chester Rd., when the other vehicle struck it in the passenger side door. As a result of the crash, both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Officers were dispatched to the area of the 900 block of Westdale Avenue for an accident involving a tractor-trailer. At arrival, it was determined that the Coca-Cola delivery truck had been traveling west on Westdale Ave. when the top portion of the trailer struck a low-hanging tree limb. The tree limb tore the entire passenger side top of the trailer. The truck had to be unloaded of its soda products, then was able to be taken from the scene. There were no injuries as a result of the crash, and no property damage was reported.

April 29, 4:12 p.m.: Ptlm. Anthony Aloi was on routine patrol in the 200 block of Park Avenue, when a truck towing a trailer attempted to make a turn into a driveway. As the vehicle was turning, the towed trailer struck a legally parked car on Park Ave. There were no reported injuries as a result of the accident, and both vehicles sustained minor damage.

April 29, 4:12 p.m.: Ptlm. Anthony Aloi was on routine patrol in the 200 block of Park Avenue, when a truck towing a trailer attempted to make a turn into a driveway. As the vehicle was turning, the towed trailer struck a legally parked car on Park Ave. There were no reported injuries as a result of the accident, and both vehicles sustained minor damage.

On March 25 at 3:45 p.m., the Swarthmore Police responded to the intersection of N. Chester Road and College Avenue for an accident with no injuries. At arrival, it was determined that a car was seen traveling on N. Chester Rd., and jumping the curb, striking several street signs. No other vehicles were involved, and the vehicle then left the area prior to police arrival.

On March 21, at 1:55 p.m., Ptlm. John Stilwell and Chief Raymond Stufflet responded to the intersection of N. Chester Road and Swarthmore Avenue, for a reported motor vehicle crash. It was determined that a vehicle was stopped in the lane of traffic on N. Chester Rd., and the car traveling behind it failed to stop in time, striking it in the rear bumper. No injuries were reported, and both cars were driven from the scene.

On Friday, March 1, at 12:10 p.m., Swarthmore Borough officers responded to the intersection of N. Chester Rd and Swarthmore Ave. for a report of a motor vehicle crash. At arrival, Patrolman Roger Hinckley and Chief Raymond Stufflet found no major injuries, but the damage to the vehicles was extensive, to the degree that both had to be removed from the scene by a tow truck.
