Accidents

  • May 13, 5:20 p.m.: Officers responded to the intersection of Yale and Haverford aves. for a minor vehicle crash. After an investigation it was determined that two cars were traveling east on Yale Ave. when one vehicle stopped to make a left turn. Traffic flow stopped, but one vehicle failed to stop in time, running into the rear bumper of another. Both vehicles sustained minor damage, and no injuries occurred as a result of the crash.

  • May 16, 1:28 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the area of Baltimore Pike and Cedar Lane for a motor vehicle crash with no reported injuries. Officers determined that both vehicles were stopped in the northbound lane of traffic on Cedar Lane, at Baltimore Pike. The striking vehicle began to move forward with traffic, but stopped for the light changing to red. The driver of the striking vehicle felt that they had pulled too far ahead in the lane, and began to back up, but failed to stop in time before backing into the car behind them. Both vehicles sustained minor damage, and no injuries occurred.

  • May 19, 1:56 p.m.: Officers responded to S. Chester Road for a minor motor vehicle crash. It was determined that the striking vehicle, traveling north on S. Chester Rd., failed to yield to a vehicle traveling through the roundabout. Both vehicles sustained minor damage, and none of the operators suffered from any injuries.

  • May 20, 9:03 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the area of Cedar Lane and Swarthmore Ave. for a motor vehicle crash. It was determined that no injuries had occurred as a result of the collision, and no vehicles were required to be towed. After the investigation, officers determined that the striking vehicle had pulled off of Cedar Lane, onto Swarthmore Ave., but was unable to negotiate the right turn. The driver began to back up, striking the vehicle that was stopped behind them.

Other

May 20, 5:28 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of S. Chester Road for an assault that had just occurred. At police arrival, the victim was found lying on the ground, with noticeable minor injuries. It was determined that the subject had gotten into an argument near the SEPTA bus stop in the 100 block of S. Chester Rd. The victim was chased by two males who were known to him, and who caught and assaulted him in the area in front of the Palmer-Pittenger-Roberts dormitories. The victim was subsequently transported to Springfield Hospital for treatment. The assailants had fled the area. The Swarthmore Police are continuing an investigation.

Medical Emergencies

The Swarthmore Borough Police Dept. responded to 13 medical emergencies. Officers assisted responding medics and the Swarthmore Ambulance for a variety of medical calls.

Service Alarms

The Swarthmore Borough Police Dept. responded to five alarm calls, ranging from a false burglar alarm to fire alarms.
