Accidents
On July 25 at 9:25 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of N. Chester Rd., near the SEPTA parking lot, for an accident that just occurred. An investigation determined that two vehicles were traveling north on N. Chester Rd. One vehicle stopped for traffic near the SEPTA parking lot; the second failed to stop in time, striking the rear bumper. No injuries occurred as a result of the crash. Both vehicles sustained minor damage but were able to be driven from the scene.
The next day, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Swarthmore Ave. and Cresson Lane for a recent motor vehicle crash. It was determined that three vehicles were traveling north on Swarthmore Ave. The first vehicle stopped to make a left turn onto Cresson Lane. The second vehicle stopped, but the third failed to stop in time and hit the rear bumper of vehicle #2. There were no injuries as a result of the crash, and both vehicles involved sustained minor damage, but were driven from the scene.
On July 30 at 8:10 a.m., officers responded to a report of an accident at Yale Ave. and Cornell Ave. After investigation, it was determined that one vehicle was traveling south on Cornell and attempted to cross Yale. The second vehicle, traveling east on Yale, struck the other unit in the passenger side front door. This collision caused the southbound vehicle to roll over onto its roof, coming to rest at the southeast corner of Cornell Ave. and Yale Ave. One operator sustained a minor injury and was transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center for treatment. Both vehicles sustained heavy, disabling damage, and had to be towed from the scene.
The next day at 4:13 p.m., officers responded to the area of S. Chester Rd. between Westdale Ave. and Yale Ave., for a reported accident. There were no injuries, and all vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. At the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined that all three cars involved were traveling north on S. Chester Rd, approaching Yale Ave. As traffic began to slow and stop for the red traffic signal at Yale Ave., the first and second cars stopped, but the third vehicle failed to stop in time, striking the rear end of the second car, pushing it into the rear bumper of the third car.

The Swarthmore Borough Police Dept. responded to 14 medical emergencies from July 22 to August 5, assisting responding medics and the Swarthmore ambulance for a variety of medical calls.
Service Alarms
Swarthmore police responded to 20 alarm calls from July 22 to August 5, including false burglar alarm, fire alarms, and panic alarms.
Other
On July 31 at 8:05 p.m. officers responded to an initial report that a large tree had fallen across the roadway (see photo) into a home on University Place. At arrival, officers and fire company personnel found that the tree did not go into the home, but did come down across the roadway, pulling down multiple electrical lines. PECO was notified, and was able to secure the power lines for safety.
