Accidents
On August 12 at 8:35 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Yale and Rutgers avenues for an accident with possible injuries. The officers’ investigation and statements from both operators showed that the driver of a car traveling north on Rutgers Ave. attempted to cross over Yale Ave., thinking that Yale Ave. traffic had a stop sign. As the car pulled out of Rutgers Ave., it was struck by the car traveling east on Yale Ave. Both cars sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene. The operator of the car traveling on Yale Ave. suffered a minor injury to her arm, and was transported to Springfield Hospital for follow-up care.
Medical Emergencies
Swarthmore Borough Police Dept. responded to 16 medical emergencies from August 19 to September 1. Officers assisted responding medics and the Swarthmore ambulance for a variety of medical calls.
Service Alarms
Swarthmore Police responded to 13 alarm calls from August 19 to September 1. These calls included false burglar alarms, fire alarms, and panic alarms.
Other
On August 15 at 1:25 p.m., officers took a report of a theft of a bicycle. The bike was locked to a bike rack near the Fieldhouse on the Swarthmore College campus in the morning, and when the victim returned at noon, the bike was missing. The bike is described as a royal blue Trek men’s bike. The Swarthmore Police are investigating, and any residents with information are asked to contact the police department at 610-543-0123.
On August 18 at 3:20 p.m., officers responded to a call from the 500 block of Ogden Ave. concerning the theft of a couch. Officers were informed that sometime between 8 p.m. on Friday, August 16, and the time just prior to the reporting date and time, some unknown person(s) had removed a couch from the resident’s patio. The Swarthmore Police are investigating; anyone with information is asked to call us at 610-543-0123.
On August 20 at 12:15 p.m., officers were informed of an indecent exposure incident that occurred the preceding evening at 7:15 p.m. The victim reported that she was walking north on N. Chester Rd., approaching Ogden Ave., when a vehicle traveling north on N. Chester Rd. pulled onto a driveway apron in the 500 block on N. Chester Rd. As the victim waited for the car to pull in, the driver remarked to the victim, “Excuse me.” As the victim approached the car, she noticed that the operator was exposing himself. The victim immediately left the area, with no further contact with the subject. The suspect is described as being a dark skinned male in his 40’s, with short cropped hair, wearing a white t-shirt. The vehicle being used was described as a 2010 or later model year, light colored mini-van.
