Officers met with a resident who reported that his car, parked in the driveway of a house in the 500 block of Walnut Lane, had been broken into earlier that morning. A white female had been seen walking up the driveway, entering the car, and removing unknown items.
Two cars were driving north on South Chester Road approaching Yale Avenue. When the front car stopped, the driver of the second car decided to pass on the left. The passing car struck the stopped car, causing minor damage to both vehicles. No one was hurt, and both cars were driven from the scene.
The police department received several reports of thefts of yard signs. Between June 24 - 28, several residents had “Black Lives Matter” signs removed from their property. Police are investigating and have identified a person of interest. Please call 911 to report similar incidents. And on July 1, at 4:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of N. Princeton Ave to investigate a burglary. The front door had been forced open, but no one was on the premises. Police are investigating.
A strong storm ripped a large branch from a tree onto a car driving on N. Chester Road between Elm and Ogden avenues. The driver escaped uninjured through the window. The car’s windshield, roof, and side mirrors were slightly damaged. Once the branch was disentangled from dangling electric wires, the car was towed from the scene.
A resident complained that their car, parked in the unit block of S. Chester Road, had been hit overnight. The front quarter panel was damaged, but the car could still be driven. The driver who did the damage left a phone number, but the owner of the damaged car had trouble reaching them. Eventually, however, the two parties connected.

A car heading west on Ogden Avenue tried to cross N. Chester Road when it hit a car heading south on N. Chester Road, causing minor damage. No one was hurt.
Two cars on Baltimore Pike were stopped at the light at Riverview, one behind the other. When the light turned green, the driver of the second car took his foot off the brake, hitting the car in front. No one was hurt, and both cars were able to be driven from the scene.

A car driving east on Elm Avenue tried to cross N. Chester Road when it was hit in the driver’s-side door by a car heading north on N. Chester Road. No one was injured, and neither vehicle needed to be towed.

Several cars were entered overnight during the weekend of Nov. 29 and 30 and minor items, like spare change, were taken. The incidents occurred on and around Westminster and Cornell avenues. The police encourage everyone to lock their car doors and not to leave any valuables in their cars.
A car driving down Harvard Ave. pulled over to let a truck pass. The truck hit a low-hanging tree branch. The branch broke off and landed on the car, which sustained minor injuries. No one was hurt.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of S. Chester Road and Yale Ave. for a crash with reported injuries. One driver, complaining of pain, was given treatment by responding paramedics. The investigation determined that one car was traveling north on S. Chester Rd., while the other vehicle involved was traveling west on Yale Ave. Witness statements confirmed that the westbound van failed to stop for the solid red traffic signal, entering the intersection at the same time as the northbound car, which struck the van on the driver’s side front door area.
The Swarthmore Borough Police Department has recently acquired a new speed timing device. As previously discussed at Borough Council, the department received its new “E.N.R.A.D.D” (Electronic Non-Radar Device). All officers have been trained in the new piece of equipment, and it is now operational. Residents should expect to see the department utilizing this equipment in its continuing effort to reduce speeding violations throughout the borough.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Ogden Avenue and Guernsey Road for a reported single vehicle accident. An investigation determined that the operator of the vehicle was traveling west on Ogden Avenue, became distracted, and jumped the curb, striking a “No Parking” sign and a telephone pole. The vehicle sustained damage that required it to be towed, but no injuries occurred as a result of the collision.
September 3, 7:50 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Westminster Ave., where a vehicle owner reported parking on the preceding evening at approximately 8 p.m. The next morning, the vehicle owner noticed a large dent in both driver side doors. It is unknown who was responsible, and anyone having information on the crash should contact the Swarthmore Borough Police Department at 610-543-0123.
