When Stereo League plays this Saturday night at Swarthmore’s waR3house3, it will be a homecoming gig for songwriter and front man Alex Savoth, who grew up on Riverview Road in the borough, and for fellow Strath Haven alumni, guitarist Dan King and drummer Gusten Rudolph.
Swarthmore United Methodist Church is presenting a special musical event for the congregation and the entire community on Sunday, October 27, beginning at 5 p.m. in the church sanctuary at 129 Park Avenue. Flutist Frances Tate, from the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, is a Swarthmore resident and an active teacher and performer in the Philadelphia area. She will play selections by Mozart, Copland, and Böhm.
The coming week brings a rich array of musical performances to Swarthmore College and its community, beginning Friday, September 20, with the chamber ensemble Music from China. It all wraps up on Thursday September 26, when former Russian political prisoner Nadya Tolokonnikova brings the feminist punk collective and rock band Pussy Riot to Swarthmore.
Swarthmorean (and Swarthmorean co-publisher) Greg Hoy traveled up to the Catskills of New York to participate in a rock and roll dream — the “Three of a Perfect Pair” music camp hosted by members of legendary progressive rock group King Crimson. Bonus slideshows and videos included.

Missouri native Dalton Ridenhour loves all forms of jazz, but especially ragtime and stride piano traditions. Ridenhour, the featured performer at Sunday’s Tri-State Jazz Society concert at Community Arts Center, is a New York-based pianist who plays with a bunch of different bands, including Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, Goodbye Picasso, and Mona’s Hot Four. He is well known to aficionados of early jazz is a sensitive and gifted player.
Connecting the community through music and art, Community Arts Center’s annual Tie-Dye Music Festival will take place rain or shine on Saturday, July 13 from 2 to 7 p.m. The free family event, presented by Ginger March and J. Rossi, and sponsored by Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, features music all day, tie-dye activities, vendors, raffles and food on the side lawn of CAC at 414 Plush Mill Road in Wallingford.
Come join the band for great music-making this summer as part of the 38th Annual Summer Band and String School, conducted by top music educators from the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District at Strath Haven High School from June 24 through July 23.
