You may remember back in early April of this year, Ben Yagoda crafted an Unscientific Survey attempting to apply the concept of the “wisdom of the crowd” to the 2021 baseball season. We asked at that nascent part of the season (the Phillies were off to a 4-0 start) to guess how far they would make it into the postseason, if they would at all. Also, we asked how many games you thought they’d win. So, how wise is this crowd?
Wallingford Presbyterian Church is celebrating great music and making a difference in the community through Concerts for a Cause. The series will begin at 3 p.m., on Sunday, October 17, with classical guitarist Yovianna Garcia.

A recap of the September 13 Wallingford-Swarthmore School District school board meeting. Dr. Denise Citarelli Jones, WSSD’s Director of Education, led a focused discussion recapping the September 2021 meeting of the Educational Affairs committee, which resulted in the recommendation for an equity audit slated for fall of 2021, and a curriculum audit planned for the spring of 2022. The board also voted unanimously to appoint Republican Amy Caruso on an interim basis to fill the seat vacated by Chapin Cimino in August, 2021.
A recap of this week’s Swarthmore Borough Council meeting, including a proposal that Thursday, October 28, be recognized as the “Hope for Hallie Teen Mental Health Awareness Day” in Swarthmore. The motion was unanimously approved by all borough council members.

Last Saturday, the Swarthmorean was contacted by former 2006 Strath Haven High School graduate, Wellington Kiiru, to let us know about SHHS English teacher and coach Kevin Haney’s heroic gesture in getting his friend, 2006 SHHS graduate Amir Sidiqi, out of Afghanistan. Wellington and Amir were both students of Mr. Haney. It also appears that another graduate of SHHS piloted the plane that brought Amir to the U.S.
Swarthmore Friends of the Arts presents Emily Richardson Retrospective: Four Decades of Photographs. The exhibit will be on display from August 18 through September 20, at Swarthmore Borough Hall, 121 Park Avenue.

In mid-June, the Bryn Mawr Bank Corporation (Bryn Mawr Trust) and the Wilmington-based WSFS Financial Corporation (WSFS Bank) announced that they plan to merge. As a result of the merger, the Swarthmore branch of Bryn Mawr Trust will close.
