This year, 2021, marks the 10 year anniversary of the popular live music and art event series Friday Night Live at the Community Arts Center. Throughout the past 10 years notable performers in the series have included Doc Gibbs, Monnette Sudler, Dave Manley, Corey Harris, Tony Miceli, Diane Monroe, Gerald Veasley, Phyllis Chapell, Simple Gifts, Minas, and many others. To celebrate the anniversary year, the CAC has expanded the number of events in the spring and fall seasons. The 10th anniversary year is presented by PNC Bank with additional support from the Pincus Family Foundation.
The fall season kicks off with the first event on Friday, September 17, with Scotty P & The Love From Above. Scott Paynter, formerly of Swarthmore, leads a high energy band based in Baltimore, Maryland, which performs reggae, blues, soul and beyond. The band’s repertoire includes original music, as well as covers of other artists. Scott, known for his powerful vocal style, is the lead singer of the popular reggae band Jah Works, also based in Baltimore. He is joined by guitarist/vocalist Tony Love and a full backing band. Be prepared for an evening of positive vibrations and a variety of wonderful music.
Additional events in the fall season include: October 8, Rev Chris (New Orleans style jazz and R&B); October 22, Kevin Valentine & Velvet Swing (soulful jazz); and November 5, Corey Harris (blues).
All events run from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the side lawn (bring your own chairs and blankets) of the CAC at 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingford. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for seating. September and October concerts will be held outdoors—weather permitting, indoors in the case of rain or excessive cold. November concerts will be held indoors.
CAC Executive Director, Paul Downie said, “It’s exciting to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of this series which has brought so many incredible musicians to the CAC. We are committed to the positive power of live music and we are thrilled to have such a great lineup this fall.”
