Raising money for refugees
To our community,
Last Saturday we were at the Swarthmore Farmers Market raising money for the Nationalities Service Center’s Afghan refugee resettlement programs. A huge thank you to all the kind people who donated money to the cause and stopped by to express support for refugee resettlement in our area.
We’ve raised more than $1,500 for the NSC so far and 100% of the funds will go directly to the care of Afghan refugees, including providing housing assistance, legal help, interpretation, and employment assistance. The NSC and other refugee resettlement agencies in Philadelphia aim to resettle at least 300 refugees and we are grateful that these agencies are ready to provide a warm welcome to these newest immigrants. Steven Larin, Deputy Director of the NSC, stopped by to share that they’ve already resettled many families in our area, and that many employers have come forward offering employment opportunities.
The recent arrivals have many needs and if you would like to give money to help them, please go to: https://bit.ly/3oand5d. If you would like to make in-kind donations, the list of organizations that the NSC partners with to provide clothing and furniture to their clients is here: https://bit.ly/3oB6kRG. Thank you in advance.
Finally, special thanks to Sarah Matthews and Swarthmore Town Center for co-sponsoring our fundraiser, and Kim O’Halloran and the Swarthmore Farmers Market for providing a lively market to be a part of.
Gratefully,
Barbie Pinakidis and Angie Tseng
