The reason I’ll miss Donnie

The reason I’ll miss Donnie

To the Editor,

On January 20, 2021, the presidency of Donald J. Trump will end and, I, for one, will be profoundly sorry. Might sound strange coming from someone who has literally written hundreds of letters with a fervent and unrelenting anti-Trump point of view. But it’s true. Why? Perhaps no other politician in the history of this country has provided such a neverending bounty of bombastic, inflammatory rhetoric and behavior to serve as kindling to fire up the pen of an editorial letter writer. Donald Trump was like a drug, like sugar to a baby, he produced a fleeting high energy euphoria, though it always devolved into a craving for more and more that could never really be satisfied.

Trump was a once-in-a-lifetime gift to us letter writers. Having said that, I would have forgone that largesse in a heartbeat to have avoided the pain, the suffering, and the misery he inflicted upon this nation. So, to Donald Trump I say “thank you” for inspiring me to write so passionately and so prolifically, and a heartfelt “good riddance.”
