Spotlight on: Indigo Healing Arts Collective

“Spotlight On…” is a new occasional feature intended to draw attention to local merchants. Most businesses are largely shut down these days, but many are open for online shopping, are offering services remotely, or are just hoping we won’t forget them. We are lucky to live in a community with so many vibrant independent shops. Let’s do what we can to ensure they’re still here when the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

Indigo Healing Arts Collective

110 Park Avenue, Swarthmore

Proprietor: Jacqlyn Diamond

What do they do? The Indigo Healing Arts Collective is a wellness sanctuary offering sacred movement, psychotherapy and bodywork. Their services include yoga, Pilates, guided meditation, sound-bath healing, massage, tarot and astrology readings, aromatherapy, counseling, and more. In their apothecary, they sell plant medicine, divination tools, and slow-beauty products.

How long has the business been in Swarthmore? Indigo has been in Swarthmore for two and a half years.

How can people continue to support them during the shutdown? Indigo offers weekly Zoom yoga classes and pop-up restorative workshops. Their Sunday morning yoga class costs $18 per session. Additionally, Indigo’s apothecary items are now available for purchase online at indigohealingarts.net. Your order can be shipped anywhere in the U.S., and free delivery is available within a five-mile radius. Or it can be picked up curbside. Email indigoswarthmore@gmail.com for more information.

What’s a favorite item? Deodorant creams made by a goat farmer in Tennessee. They are aluminum and baking soda free, and are made from gentle, organic ingredients that stay true to their scent all day.

How much? $12 for a 2.4 ounce jar.

Anything else people should know? Indigo is a place of service and connection for the community. It’s an ashram for some. As one of our students recently shared, Indigo is his church, his time for silent and meditative prayer, a home for his heart. I too feel that Indigo is an extension of my heart.

Indigo students are not anonymous. We remember your name, your children’s names, your favorite spot to land in the studio, as well as your favorite face oil and your least favorite scents. For some, we know your heartache and your greatest love story. We are humbled that we are valued and welcomed in this community, and we hope that, as we emerge from the rubble and quietude a bit transformed — maybe a little bruised — we will once again vibrate the windows of our space with the sound of “OM.”
