When it comes to doing the right thing,
I’m fifty-fifty.
I could lament my lack of standards,
dearth of discipline
(and I do)…
I could call on reason, religion, hypnosis
to fix me—
Or I could obliterate guilt and worry
and embrace my lower fifty—
those dark and tangled acres.
