The family of M. Carl Drott Jr. (“Carl”) is deeply saddened to announce that he died, peacefully at home, on May 6. A longtime resident of Swarthmore, Carl was a dedicated teacher and researcher. He was 78.

Michael Robert Rosen, of Carson City, Nevada, passed away April 27, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, from complications following surgery for pancreatic cancer. He was 60.

Raymond Anthony Kelly, MBA, passed away suddenly at home on April 13. As vice president of Eurofins Company, he was a specialist in mergers and acquisitions, sizing up companies for possible purchase. He was 53.

Nancy Mudrick (née Weigand) passed away peacefully at Riddle Memorial Hospital on April 4. She was 90.

Frederick “Neil” Bell Jr. of Westtown passed away on April 1 at Chester County Hospital in West Chester. For 55 years he was the loving and devoted husband of the late Suanne Phillips Bell. He was 85.

Catherine (Kay) T. McCallister, a longtime resident of Swarthmore, passed away peacefully on February 20 in Douglassville, Pennsylvania, where she lived. She was 96.

Anne Maddock Ewing, known as “Basie” to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and as “Nancy” to everyone else, was called home on March 8, in her 100th year.

Merrie Lou Cohen, of Swarthmore, died peacefully at home on March 5, having achieved her ambition of living to see a Democrat back in the White House. She was 95.

Kenneth L. Copeland Sr. of Media, formerly of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, died on Tuesday, February 16. He was 99.

Douglas R. Butler of Shohola, Pennsylvania, the cherished husband of Luanne D’Amato Butler, father of Julian and Quinn, and son of Daniel R. and Linda Butler of Media, died on February 21 of a rare and aggressive renal cancer. He was 56.

G. Michael Davis of Swarthmore, a veteran educator and retired Strath Haven High School English teacher, passed away peacefully at his home on February 25. He suffered a fall in late December and never recovered from the combination of this injury and the ongoing challenges of Parkinson’s disease. He was 82.

It is with deep sadness we share news of the death of Kimberly Hall Smith (Kim or Kimber). He died quickly and painlessly on February 18 at his home in Greenville, South Carolina. He was 89.

David L. Ffrench Sr. of Wallingford, formerly a longtime resident of Swarthmore, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 12, after a brief battle with COVID pneumonia. He was 95.

William “Chip” Essick Jr., of East Earl, Pennsylvania, who was a resident of Rose Valley for more than 60 years, passed away peacefully on February 16. He was 82.

Robert Edward Thomas of Swarthmore died on January 20, surrounded by his loving family, following a stroke. He was 76.

Carla Gusovius Atkins, mother of Harry Atkins of Swarthmore, died peacefully in her sleep, of natural causes, on Wednesday, February 3, at her elder son’s home in Arlington, Virginia. She was 93.

Anne Fu Ip, beloved wife of the late Steve K. Ip, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24. She was 95.

Daniel R. Butler, of Media, and a former longtime resident of Wallingford, died unexpectedly on February 5. He was 87.

Peter Trueman Thompson passed away on January 13 surrounded by family. He was 91.
