Barbara Macken, known for her generous spirit and energetic nature, died November 30 of complications from cancer. Barbara, 81, lived in Swarthmore for more than four decades and was active in service to the surrounding community, especially to those in need.

John “Jack” McDonnell of Swarthmore died peacefully on Monday, November 29, 2021, in Lankenau Hospital, Wynnewood. He was 84.

Margret Vera Skitarelic, known as Maggie to her friends, was born in Cumberland, Maryland, near the border of West Virginia, on March 5, 1945. Her parents, both first generation Americans, had a strong work ethic, and made education a top priority for Maggie and her sister Kathryn.

Stephen Earle Edwards, formerly of Swarthmore, died of complications related to Parkinson’s disease on November 30, 2021, in Media. He was 77.

Carolyn Morse Jones of Newtown Square passed away on October 30th, with her family by her side. She was 92.

Christian Thorkil Host of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, died unexpectedly on October 19, 2021. He was 65.

Doug Williams passed away peacefully on October 22, 2021, in the Swarthmore home he shared with his daughter, Sarah Komarinski, and her family.

Dr. Robert H. Schwoebel, a scholar, teacher, activist, and United States Marine, died in his sleep on October 19, 2021 in Bala Cynwd, Pennsylvania. He was 92 years old.

Ruth Pike Fooskas of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home of natural causes on October 22, 2021, surrounded by her three sons. She was 94.

Dorothy D. “Bunny” (Walls) Lee, a resident of Swarthmore and formerly of West Philadelphia, passed away on October 8, 2021. She was 96.

Bill Titus died on October 14, 2021, at his home in Swarthmore, of congestive heart failure. He was 71 years old.

Catharine ‘Katie’ Evans Reynolds, a former resident of Wallingford (and later a resident of Stone Harbor, New Jersey, and Sanibel Island, Florida), died peacefully in her sleep at the Shell Point Retirement Community in Ft. Myers, Florida, on June 19, 2020. She was 88.

Robert A. Barr Jr., formerly of Swarthmore, died on October 7, 2021, at Foulkeways at Gwynedd, of complications during treatment for cancer. He was 87.

Beatrice Saul Dallett, a friend and inspiration for many, and the former director of the Community Arts Center in Wallingford, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

Robinson G. Hollister died September 14 at the North Hill Community in Needham, Massachusetts. He died quickly and seemingly painlessly, likely due to complications from a fall two weeks earlier. Born in 1934 to Jean Ackerman Hollister and Robinson G. Hollister, Sr., he grew up in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, much loved by his three sisters.

William (Bill) David Ziegenfus, who died on September 8 at age 85, was born in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, to Helen Miller Ziegenfus and William Charles Franklin Ziegenfus. He grew up alongside sister, Barbara Betts, and dedicated his life to the community they were raised in.

Janet Hilary Bowie passed away on August 30, 2021, finally losing her fight with Parkinson’s, a disease she battled for almost 20 years. She was 74.

David G. Raymond of Haddonfield, New Jersey, passed away on September 12. He was 65.
