Should there be an effort to make general American history classes more inclusive, so that the people who take them can learn that there is more to the history of America than the doings of white heterosexual male Protestants? If we did that, we could still offer the more focused courses, for those of us who want to delve more deeply into various areas, but students who take only the required courses could still gain a basic knowledge of who participated in weaving the tapestry of this country.
Remembering Thompson Bradley
A legend among many of us activists, I remember Thompson Bradley from his Veterans for Peace time, and as part of Delco Pledge of Resistance (see archives at the Swarthmore College Peace Collection), which was a local branch of National Pledge of Resistance, resisting U.S. Interventions in Central America. He was an inspiration to many of us in both his activities and speeches.
On higher education
Solving the problem of ever-spiraling college tuition may not require either Jim Riviello’s or Mary Gay Scanlon’s solutions. Rather, can we now question why college tuition has spiraled this high and whether all the expenses are necessary?
