As you know, the pandemic has affected library operations. It has also negatively impacted our revenue. For example, the Friends of the Swarthmore Public Library, a nonprofit group which fundraises on our behalf, and which annually supplies 20-25% of our budget, has had to cancel their popular book and bake sales. As a result, we are again asking for your help and support.
The Swarthmore Public Library has a nine-member board that helps the library thrive and serve our community. We currently have one open seat for a three-year term.
The 2019 Mitten Tree at the Swarthmore Public Library was able to raise a large amount of money ($182) to buy warm clothing for CityTeam Ministries in Chester! Equally important were the contributions of blankets, scarves, mittens, gloves, hats, socks, and sweaters which were collected and also donated to CityTeam.
Thanks to everyone who made the Friends of the Swarthmore Public Library sale a success! Last weekend, the Friends raised $9,358 for the library with its traditional semi-annual Book and Bake sale. Due to the hard work and dedication of countless volunteers — sorters, clerks, bakers, publicity people, set-up people, clean-up people — as well as the excellent library staff, the community came together in a fun and productive manner to benefit the library we all love.
The leaves are changing colors and there is a chill in the air, and that can only mean one thing … it is time to mark your calendars for the fall Friends of Swarthmore Public Library Book & Bake Sale! This year the fall sale is on November 7, 8 and 9, and features a huge array of excellent books, movies, music, sheet music, and puzzles that will satisfy a wide spectrum of interests and age groups.
The Swarthmore Public Library would love to invite you to help us continue our mission to empower our community to Read, Meet, Discover and Grow. It takes an involved and active community to support a library as active (and as small!) as ours. There are many ways you can volunteer and support our wonderful library and the programs we offer, and there’s something that’s right for almost everyone.
On behalf of the Swarthmore Public Library (SwPL), I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the community of Swarthmore for their generosity, enthusiasm and heartfelt support of our recent 90th anniversary celebration.
Thanks to the community for a very successful Spring Book and Bake Sale the first weekend of May. We raised $10,302 for our beloved library, and we got to reconnect with community members over informal book discussions and bites of home-baked treats.
