To the Editor,

I am humbled and honored to have received the endorsement of Swarthmore’s Democratic elected officials and precinct committee-persons during their caucus meeting last week. My decision to run for borough council is rooted in a deep sense of duty and a desire to serve my community. Now, more than ever, we long to feel a sense of connection to each other and to our community.

People don’t just end up in Swarthmore. People choose Swarthmore. We choose Swarthmore because it’s a beautiful community with a walkable downtown, access to public transportation, phenomenal schools, and it’s a safe community. Swarthmore checks all the boxes.

I’ve spent my career working with municipal, county, and state governments. Over the last 10 years, I’ve worked with IBM and a civil engineering firm to make communities safer and more efficient, and to improve the quality of life for their residents. My husband Chris has been a teacher at Ridley High School for 19 years, and our daughter will start kindergarten in the fall at Swarthmore-Rutledge School. We couldn’t ask for a better place to raise our family.

If elected to the council, my first priority will be listening to the needs of our community members and learning what will make Swarthmore work better for them. Throughout my career, I have taken ideas and helped translate them into physical infrastructure that improves and strengthens communities. I am dedicated to using my experience in local government and public works to enhance and advance this community that is already wonderful.

Thanks,

Kristen Seymore
