The big chili

To the Community,

Swarthmore United Methodist Church was disappointed to cancel the much-loved Chili Cookoff for 2021, but the chili fundraiser we substituted proved a success beyond our expectations. The immigration reform organization, Justice For Our Neighbors, will receive the $2,200 that was raised.

We distributed 72 quarts of meat chili, 19 quarts of vegetarian chili, more than 350 corn muffins, and seemingly countless chocolate-chip cookies to at least 65 donors, to whom we are indeed grateful. Our appreciation also goes to the Swarthmorean for promotion, and especially to the Swarthmore Senior Citizens Association and to Linton Stables, who featured our fundraiser in their daily newsletter for two weeks. Church members to be recognized for their efforts include: Janice Ciampa, Judy Luzak, Pastor Lydia Muñoz, Pat and Sam Parsons, Nanette Tobin, Mary Drott, Mary Ann Patterson, Anne Hansen, Beth Carruthers, Bruce and Carolyn Stephens, and Sheila Bell. And a friend of Pastor Lydia’s — who baked a prodigious number of those corn muffins.
