Girls to grownups: Vote!
To the Editor,
As I am sure everyone knows, the presidential election is coming up soon. Though voting this year will surely look different, it is just as important to vote now as it ever has been. Maybe even more important. With varying levels of misinformation and fear-mongering circulating in regard to mail-in voting, it would not be surprising if voter turnout this year is at a record low.
I am a freshman at Strath Haven High School and part of the Girl Up community, a nonprofit organization that aims to empower and uplift girls and enable them to make lasting change in today’s world. We are working with the non-partisan, non-profit organization When We All Vote, hoping to change that narrative and make this year’s turnout even bigger than in the past. WWAV works to close the age and race voting gaps, to get more people registered to vote, and to educate voters on their rights.
As a team leader for Girl Up, I am looking for any possible way to inform people about the importance of voting, especially for those between the ages of 18 and 24. I’m also focused on getting people registered. As an organization, we aim to make voting simple, stress free, and available to all! The flier (above) includes a QR code and a link to the Girl Up voter registration page.
If you have any questions about Girl Up or WWAV, email me at isysnelms@gmail.com. I hope this year we can make a change in the country through the election.
Sincerely,
Isys Nelms
