DIY luminaria fundraiser?

DIY luminaria fundraiser?

To the Editor,

The annual luminaria fundraiser, supporting A Better Chance Strath Haven (ABC) and Alumni Supporting Kids (ASK), is one of my very favorite holiday traditions. While I certainly understand why it has been cancelled (see letter in the December 11 edition of the Swarthmorean), and agree with putting safety first this year, I can’t imagine New Year’s Day on our Swarthmore cul-de-sac without the otherworldly beauty of luminaria glowing in the dark. I have ordered a bundle of white craft bags from Amazon and will use the miscellaneous votive candles I have on hand to compile as many luminaria as I can for our street to enjoy. I’ll also make a donation to the ABC program, for whom this cancellation is surely a blow. Perhaps some of my fellow Swarthmoreans would like to do so, as well? Together we can shed some light as we turn the calendar over to a new year.
