Become a Penn State Extension Master Gardener
Applications are now being accepted for the next class of master gardeners at Penn State Extension. The Extension’s master gardener program educates the community about research-based best gardening practices. Master gardeners develop horticultural expertise through a series of classes conducted by Penn State University faculty and Extension staff.
Applicants to the master gardener program typically have the following qualities:
Desire to learn about horticultural best practices based on scientific research.
Enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge and experiences with others.
Dedication to performing volunteer activities in their community.
Desire to promote environmental stewardship.
Master gardeners help the Penn State Extension program better serve the home gardening public in many ways, including answering questions, speaking to groups, writing gardening articles, working with young people, and gardening in the program’s demonstration gardens.
Interviews of program applicants will be held during the summer. Weekly classes will be held from October through March. The fee is $225. A limited number of partial scholarships are available.
