Recycle Election Signs Until November 13

Now that the election is over, it is time to take down all those lawn signs. To reduce some of the waste produced during the election season, A Few Steps is organizing a collection for the metal wickets at the Swarthmore Recycling Center until November 13. The group offers these additional tips to handle waste from campaign signs:

• Save your sign for the next election cycle. Representatives are up for reelection every two years and senators every six years. Reusing your sign during the next election cycle will save resources for the campaigns and the planet.

• Reuse parts of your sign. The metal wickets are great for supporting plants in the garden.

• Recycle the parts that are recyclable.

Wickets: 

Remove the sign from the metal wicket and bring the wicket to the Swarthmore Recycling Center at 121 Dartmouth Ave. by November 13. Please stack them by the fence next to the domed recycling bins. Signs will indicate where to place them. Please do not leave plastic signs.

Signs:

• Cardboard: Recycle in curbside mixed recycling or in the paper recycling dumpster at the Swarthmore Recycling Center.

• Film (floppy) plastic: Can be recycled with plastic grocery bags at any store offering plastic bag recycling. 

• Corrugated (stiff) plastic: No local recycling options available for these. Please find another use for them, or dispose of them in the trash. Please don’t leave them at the Recycling Center.
