Sweet Summer Songs: Chester Children’s Chorus Shows and Tells, Sings and Dances Through July
Nearly 120 members of the Chester Children’s Chorus are approaching the end of a five-week summer learning program conducted by CCC at a June/July camp session at Swarthmore College. In celebration of a semester of learning and growth, groups of campers will present poster sessions and performances from July 25 through Wednesday July 31, at the College.
The summer learning program began its 25th year in June, with day campers from the Chester-Upland School District spending five weeks enjoying swimming, dancing, math, reading, science, art, drama, and lots of singing. Students will show how they’ve learned and grown in a series of free events beginning Thursday, July 25, with a Science Fair poster session beginning from 11 a.m. to noon at 2 p.m. at Eldridge Commons in Swarthmore College’s Science Center. Later on Thursday, the Choir will open Summer Concert weekend on July 26, with a matinee beginning at 2 p.m. Doors of Lang Concert Hall open at 1:30 p.m for this event, which should be especially appealing to seniors, who are invited to a luncheon at Lang preceding the concert (see sidebar).
On Friday, July 27, and Saturday, July 28, the Choral Concert is staged in its full glory at Lang. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.; arrive early for optimal seating. The program includes a new framing of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, Duruflé’s Ubi Caritas, a Jackson 5 medley including ABC, I’ll Be There, and The Love You Save, and a show-stopping arrangement of Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror.
At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, members of the Chorus will present a dance recital at Lang Performing Arts Center at Swarthmore. The performance schedule will conclude that Wednesday evening with a 7:30 p.m. voice and drama showcase entitled “Send Me a Story.” This final event will be staged at Lang Concert Hall; admission is free for this and all CCC events.
