Two Strath Haven High School seniors, Abigail MacPherson and Benjamin Wainfan, were awarded $5,000 Rotary/Women’s Club scholarships in May 2019. The scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate community service in keeping with Rotary’s motto of “Service above Self.” The students had a notable record of contributing to the community, either local or global.
Abigail is from Media and plans to enroll in Northeastern University in Boston. She was very active in providing service through her church, including spending a week every summer at a Habitat for Humanity work site. She was also co-chair of the Strath Haven Relay for Life fundraiser. Benjamin lives in Wallingford and plans to go to Lehigh University. He volunteers at Thorncroft in Malvern, a therapeutic horseback riding center. He also started a service club at Strath Haven to recruit and train volunteers at Thorncroft.
