From the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District
SHHS Leadership Transition
Dr. Kristopher Brown will be leaving his position as principal of Strath Haven High School (SHHS) in January 2020. In her report at the Wallingford-Swarthmore School Board meeting on Monday night, Superintendent Lisa A. Palmer announced that she hopes to fill the position on an interim basis with someone from within the district. She anticipates naming an interim principal in the next few weeks.
Remembering Hallie Jackson
In honor of the December 10 birthday of Hallie Jackson, an SHHS student who died by suicide in October, many students came to school dressed in purple — Hallie’s favorite color — on Tuesday. Her death has taken a heavy toll on the school community. Students have been searching for ways to remember Hallie and to offer help to others who may be struggling. Hallie’s cousin, Lucie Swan, and her friend Alyssa Vaccone have started a nonprofit organization called Hope for Hallie to raise awareness of suicide prevention and combat the stigma around mental illness.
Some of Hallie’s friends shared their thoughts on Tuesday, which would have been her 17th birthday. “Wearing purple helps me remember Hallie is always with me,” said Anna Rispo, a junior. “I love to remember all of the fun things we did and laughs we shared together.” Vaccone, also a junior, added, “Remember to check on your friends, even the happy ones.”
The WSSD faculty and staff encourages students who may be struggling to seek help. A partial list of mental health resources is available here on our website.
