Edgar Y. Harris
Edgar Yarnall Harris, formerly of Swarthmore, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021, at Barclay Friends in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He was 78.
Edgar was the husband of Ann Harris, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Henry and Margaret Yarnall Harris.
A graduate of Swarthmore High School, Denison University, and Vanderbilt University School of Law, Edgar was an attorney in Media for many years. He was an Assistant District Attorney for Delaware County, before going into private practice in the mid-70s. He started the law firm that is now Harris and Smith.
Most knew Edgar as a raconteur, “a fellow of infinite jest.” He was also known to many as a relief pitcher. Through legal representation, divorces, estate planning, and generosity of spirit, he helped many people out of tight situations.
Edgar is survived by his wife, Ann; his children, Lindsay Harris Friel and her husband, Vincent Friel, and his son, Edgar “Ted” Harris.
The funeral will be held at Trinity Church of Swarthmore, and a private interment will be held afterwards for family only.
Memorial contributions may be made to Chester Eastside.
