Susana R Roveda Radice

Susana Rosa Roveda took her first breath on October 4, 1938, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She took her last breath just after midnight on August 8, 2021, in Wallingford, Pennsylvania, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She died quietly, surrounded by her family. Earlier that night, she got to hear her family sing “Zamba de mi esperanza” one last time. 

Known to her friends and family as “Coca,” “la nonna,” and “Susy,” but always as “Mamina” to her grandchildren, Susana’s death leaves a huge hole in her family and community. 

Mamina was a force of nature, never afraid to share her opinion or deliver a zinger. Her family has been left with a veritable book of quotes and stories. She wasn’t always easy, but she loved her family and friends fiercely. After raising five children, she spent more than 20 years volunteering with local children with special needs. Her deepest wish before she died was that her family remain close with one another.  

Mamina was always elegant and was a masterful host of dinner parties and family gatherings. Strong and stubborn, she was also playful and fun. On Noche Buena she’d descend the stairs dressed in a red and white suit and wearing a beard; our Santa Claus had ski goggles and a Spanish accent and smelled of perfume.

She loved her beach house in Delaware, and always hoisted la bandera argentina upon her arrival. From the master bedroom, she loved watching thunderstorms out over the ocean, and spent hours reading on the beach. She is at the heart of our happy memories of playing on the beach and having asados (Argentine bar-b-que) up at the house. 

An accomplished painter, she always had an artist’s eye. She talked to the crows who roosted outside her kitchen window and believed in the importance of greeting trees. And while Ange will claim otherwise, she made the best flan. 

She is preceded in death by her mother Rosa, her father Romeo, and her younger sister Martha. 

Susana is survived by her loving husband (her Papa Frita) Luís Radice; her sister, Lia Roveda of San Diego; her daughter Claudia Cueto and her husband Tim Kearney of Swarthmore, her daughter Monica Murray of Houston TX, her son Sergio and his wife Isabel of Warrenton, Virginia, her daughter Dr. Sylvia Cueto and her husband Dr. Matthew Redclift of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, her son Francisco Cueto and his wife Ange of Springfield, Virginia, her stepsons Alejandro, Julian, and Marcelo Radice; and her 24 grandchildren.
