Dolores Baughn
Dolores Baughn passed away on April 13. She was 89.
The oldest of nine children, Dolores was born in Philadelphia to the late Thaddeus and Catherine Wilson Adams.
She was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and moved with her family to Swarthmore at an early age. There she met and married the late Elijah Baughn. They were blessed with three children, Carnell, Vincent, and Loretta.
Dolores was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, friend, and Christian. Dolores’s compassion and empathy for others was shown through her relationships with her family and friends. She had a special affinity for children. Over the years she babysat for a multitude of children from her community. Her love for babies was obvious, as she never wanted them to go home.
Dolores had many passions in her life. Dancing and gardening brought her much joy, and she stayed fit by exercising and walking everywhere for as long as she was able. She was an avid reader with a deep love of novels and autobiographies. She cared much for animals, especially cats and dogs. She had a witty sense of humor. She enjoyed traveling with the Schoolhouse Senior Center in Folsom. But, most of all, Dolores loved to spend time with family.
Dolores was a faithful member of St. Raymond’s Catholic Church, Philadelphia, where she could be found serving meals to seniors and clothing the homeless. She was a generous giver and supported many charities. For many years, she was employed by Philco-Ford Corporation.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, brother (Carroll Adams), and son and daughter (Vincent and Loretta Baughn). Left to mourn her passing, but hopeful to see her again, are her son Carnell Baughn (Tina) of Philadelphia; two brothers, Thaddeus (Beverly) of Wallingford and Arnold (Dorris) of Swarthmore; five sisters, Gwen Johnston (Raymond) of Swarthmore, Phyllis Browner of Los Angeles, Barbara Rickards of Yeadon, Arlis Smith (George) of Philadelphia, and Brenda Jarmon (Vernal) of Media; a dearly devoted friend, John McNamara, of Swarthmore; grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
