Mark Wellwood Staples of Wallingford Pa. passed away peacefully on June 8, 2019, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. He was 77 years old.

Born October 9, 1941 in Saginaw Mi., he was the son of the late Lynn and Virginia (Spray) Staples. Mark graduated from Saginaw High School in 1959. He attended the University of Michigan where he met and fell in love with his future wife, Sue. After graduation with an MBA from the University of Michigan, Mark and Sue married in 1965 and moved to Sewickley, PA, where Mark worked at Mellon Bank. During that time, he served with the National Guard. Mark and his family moved to Swarthmore in 1970. A foreign posting with INA took the family to London from 1978 to 1981 and they returned to Wallingford and have been a part of the community ever since.

Mark will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend to many. His love of life, devotion to his friends, his quick smile and sincere interest in others was infectious to everyone around him. Mark was a lover of the outdoors and of golf, which he continued to play long after many successful battles with cancer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Mark “Woody” Staples and his wife, Cathleen of Portage, MI, Judd Staples and his wife Betty of Durham, NC, and Hilary Staples and her husband Kirk McLaughlin of San Rafael, CA. His six grandchildren, Andrew, William, Owen, Wilson, Tate, and Rio affectionately remember “Pop Pop” as a devoted and fun-loving grandfather. He is also survived by two brothers and a sister; Stephen Staples, Guy Staples and his wife, Laura, and Nancy Voisilin and her husband, Nick.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 1:30 PM on Saturday, June 15th, at Swarthmore Presbyterian Church, 727 Harvard Ave, Swarthmore, PA 19081. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
