Last Saturday was a perfect day for the annual Chester Ridley Crum (CRC) Watersheds Association Streams Cleanup Day at Little Crum Creek Park, with cool weather and a beautiful blue sky. We always appreciate meeting new friends and seeing our regular Park Pals. Thanks to all for a great day!

When Ines Rodriguez approached me about planning a workday in Little Crum Creek Park on Black Friday, I thought, Well, that sounds like a wacky idea for this time of year, but why not? Let’s get people outside and away from the malls. Ines and I quickly created a Facebook event, posted on Nextdoor Swarthmore, and sent some information to The Swarthmorean. We were committed! But we were still unsure anyone would actually show up.
It’s not easy to select a day for volunteer work in Little Crum Creek Park, what with many competing events, and questionable weather. The other week, we scheduled a work day and announced it via our usual social media resources. About 1 p.m., three of us met at the park and waited for volunteers to appear. We wondered, were we the only ones who were going to complete the unfinished work needed to put the park to bed for the winter? Suddenly, five boys, all 5th graders at SRS, showed up, eager to help!
