Priority: Delco Thrive

My family has recently enjoyed delicious take-out meals from two restaurants we had never heard of before, thanks to Transition Town Media’s new program, Priority: Delco Thrive. The brainchild of Ulysses Slaughter, Priority: Delco Thrive chooses one Delaware County food establishment per month for customers to “blitz.” Orders are taken online a few days ahead of time at Transition Town Media’s website, and customers choose a time slot to pick up their order — all on one day. Each order costs $20.
In March, I ventured down to the Red Brick Cafe in Chester, in what used to be the community center for William Penn Homes. We got one order each of fried shrimp, fried chicken, and fried fish. Everything was fresh and tasty, and the sides — mac and cheese, sweet potato, and collards — were seasoned perfectly.
April’s choice was the Tattooed Pig in Aston. A cross between Tex Mex and Jamaican, their food is filling and spicy (but not too spicy!). My favorite dish is the Bob Marley burrito, with crisp pulled pork, plantains, rice, and pineapple-habanero sauce.
May’s selection is Bittersweet Kitchen in Media, with pickup between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on May 15. Add your name to the email list at transitiontownmedia.org/priority-delco-thrive.
