‘Something beneficial for the borough’
To the Editor,
I am writing in defense of Mssrs. Delson and Cumby with respect to their proposed condominium project. I was provoked to write because of comments seen in Nextdoor Swarthmore, and I suspect there are others who share the expressed view that they are motivated by financial gain. To some this would occur at the expense of the town and its character. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the propriety and esthetics of the project, and it will surely be extensively discussed. That’s expected, appropriate and fair.
What isn’t fair is to portray the developers incorrectly. I’ve known both these men well for at least 30 years and I can say with complete conviction that they are generous, civic minded, and caring individuals who are primarily interested in promoting the future and well being of Swarthmore. Neither needs this project to enhance their financial situation. They truly consider this as something beneficial for the borough and for the many residents who desire this type of option. One may disagree but to attribute their motivation to greed is misguided.
