Signs don’t speak for everyone
To the Editor,
Walking around Swarthmore, I notice lawn signs cropping up which read: “Together We Will See It Through.” I’m sure the intention is to lift the spirits and convey hope. However, that is not my reaction. It takes me to a darker and bleaker place where I wonder how the one hundred thousand dead ++ might feel about getting through this together. Given the racist nature of American society, black, brown, and indigenous people are much less likely to get through this together. As well, the initial hysteria and lawsuit (settled) by the borough against CADES in April hardly seems to represent the imagined consequence of the sign’s wording.
How about some signs with real meaning: Together WE Demand Universal Health Care.
