To the Editor:
I chortled, more chuckled when I read Jim Riviello’s letter (Swarthmorean, June 21). I thought: “Whoa, that is some fine ironic writing. We all know that no Swarthmore residents including the June 21 letter writer could, in actuality, possibly support a racist and misogynist President.”
Renowned Canadian literary theorist Northrop Frye describes one form of the ironic: “A mode…in which the characters exhibit a power of action inferior to the one assumed to be normal in the reader or audience…”
I suggest that more Swarthmoreans take irony supplements while voting Trump out of office.
