The Swarthmorean 2021 Summer Internship Program
Description
The Swarthmorean invites applications for an unpaid summer internship with flexible working arrangements. The applicant must have 8-15 hours of availability per week for at least five weeks between mid-June and mid-August. Current high school and college students are eligible.
Responsibilities
Attend Monday publishers meetings (if your schedule allows).
Write copy for social media posts.
Generate story ideas.
Attend (either virtually or in person) local events and take notes.
Perform research.
Write one to two stories per month.
Take photographs for stories and social media posts.
Meet weekly with your supervisor.
Application
Essay questions (100-200 words for each question)
What does it mean for a newspaper to serve its community?
What skills, experiences, or ideas will enable you to be a good intern for the Swarthmorean?
Writing samples
Please submit two writing samples. These could be articles, blog posts, short stories, school papers, or any other kind of prose.
Recommendations
Please submit one recommendation from a teacher, job supervisor, or coach.
