Swarthmorean.com – Building an Alternative to Nextdoor
Swarthmorean.com is becoming a more useful community resource than Nextdoor, offering far more in-depth coverage of the institutions, people, and events that shape the community. We are growing rapidly because we’re the go-to source for what’s happening in our town and throughout the school district, with dozens of featured events every week in and around Swarthmore and surrounding communities.
You can use Swarthmorean.com to find activities to do with your kids, and discover volunteer and public service opportunities — right now. It’s a one stop shop to learn what’s happening at our local library, keep “in the know” about events happening at Swarthmore College — or read poetry written by your neighbors. Subscribers can add events to their calendar with one click, post comments, like and share articles to social media, and submit letters to the editor online. We also feature exclusive content, like the recent summer travel story written by Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon you won’t find anywhere else.
Just like Mary Gay, you can contribute to the paper, too. The Swarthmorean is a local, craft newspaper whose mission is to foster community engagement, connection and understanding. In the months ahead, there will be more features added to the site to make it even more useful and engaging. Our vision is for Swarthmorean.com to become the online hub of our community. Think of it as a pub without the beer (we know, that’s easy to do if you live in Swarthmore).
To accomplish our mission, we need you! Help yourself, and help us expand our coverage by encouraging your friends to sign up and subscribe. Digital subscriptions cost about as much as a large latte — just $5/month — and all Swarthmorean print subscribers as of our launch date (June 7, 2019) get free digital access for the remainder of their subscription term (up to one year). But this offer ends September 30, so act fast!
