Report from the Fire Company: July 1 through July 14, 2019
From June 17 through June 30, 2019, the Swarthmore Fire & Protective Association responded to the following alarms:
EMS
The ambulance responded to 35 calls for medical assistance. These were to Swarthmore, Rutledge, Morton, Springfield, Ridley Township, and Nether Providence Twp. The calls were for a variety of emergencies including: fall w/ trauma, sick person, respiratory difficulty, cardiac emergency, head injury, seizures, accident w/injury, medical alarm, diabetic emergency, psychiatric emergency, syncopal episode, back injury, injured person, pedestrian struck, feeding tube, unconscious person, semi-conscious person, hemorrhaging, subject down and suicide.
Automatic Fire Alarm
Three in Swarthmore: 500 block of N. Chester Rd. for a 1st fl. smoke alarm activation, 400 block of Cornell Ave. for a pull station activation, 500 block of Riverview Rd. for a smoke detector activation. Three in Nether Providence Twp.: 400 block of Moore Rd. for a pull station activation, 100 block of Brookside Rd. for a 2nd fl. smoke alarm activation, 1000 block of Beech Rd. for a 2nd fl. rear smoke detector.
Automobile
Two alarms in Swarthmore: at Yale & Cornell aves. for an accident with head and severe whiplash injuries, and at South Chester Rd. and Westdale Ave. for an accident with injuries. Three alarms in Nether Providence Twp.: on the exit three off-ramp from I-476 southbound, for an accident with leg injuries; at 1900 Bullens Ln. for a two vehicle accident with three injuries; and at E. Baltimore Pike & Turner Rd. for an accident with head & chest injuries.
Brush
One alarm in Springfield Twp. in the 600 block of Fairview Rd. for a mulch fire out front.
Building
One in Nether Providence Twp. at Crum Creek Valley Condo. for an investigation.
Dumpster
One alarm in Morton on the 100 block of Morton Ave.
Wires
One alarm in Swarthmore in the 200 block of Kenyon Ave. for tree limbs down causing hazards from the wires; one alarm in Morton at Church Rd. and the SEPTA station for a gray box on fire in the lot.
Hazmat
One in Morton, in the 200 block of Unity Terrace for a natural gas leak outside; one in Nether Providence Twp.at 1000 Putnam Blvd. for a natural gas leak outside.
Mutual Aid Calls
Three to Morton/Rutledge, eight to Nether Providence Twp., and one to Springfield Twp.
