Save the date and start working on your act. On Saturday, July 27, the Young People’s Theatre Workshop is creating, coordinating and presenting Children of the Wind, an Arts-A-Thon to raise money and hope for migrant children detained at the southern U.S. border.
Swarthmorean Robert Scott recently mentioned beaver sightings on Crum Creek, where the toothy furbearers abounded in the time of the Lenni Lenape, but were absent for decades and have only returned in the past few years. The lower trail is all but inaccessible due to tree fall, but walking downstream from the “Crumhenge” meadow near the SEPTA viaduct, Scott said, he had seen four beavers and their lodges during his evening walks along the trail.

Connecting the community through music and art, Community Arts Center’s annual Tie-Dye Music Festival will take place rain or shine on Saturday, July 13 from 2 to 7 p.m. The free family event, presented by Ginger March and J. Rossi, and sponsored by Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, features music all day, tie-dye activities, vendors, raffles and food on the side lawn of CAC at 414 Plush Mill Road in Wallingford.
15 year old Gabe Ma’s Eagle Scout project focused on the creation of a switchback trail to high ground in the Saul Preserve in Rose Valley, and creation of a new trail which will wind along a ridge overlooking the floodplain of the creek through the preserve.

Like quite a few of their fellow Swarthmoreans, Jill Gaieski and Lori Knauer enjoy a glass of good wine. Together, they’ve also pursued the Certified Specialist in Wine designation at the Wine School in Philadelphia, a serious program that incorporates aspects of oenology and oenophilia. Now, out of their appreciation of wine, its variety and lore, the two are working to bring Swarthmore a wine bar and bistro named Village Vine, which they plan to open next year in the former Compendium location at 6 Park Avenue.
