The Rose Valley Museum at Thunderbird Lodge was on both sides of the gavel last month, hosting one auction to raise funds to purchase pieces by renowned American artist and furniture maker Wharton Esherick, then using those funds to bid on his works at another.
The Rose Valley Museum at Thunderbird Lodge has never taken its eyes off the Wharton Esherick prize. The museum will be hosting a curated in-person and online auction October 25. It will feature Arts and Crafts antiques and fine art from the turn of the 20th century.
The Rose Valley Centennial Foundation was recently awarded a grant of $99,788 through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Keystone Construction program. The award was announced by State Representative Leanne Krueger, whose office assisted in identifying the funding opportunity.
For nearly 60 years, social justice crusader and peace activist Mildred Scott Olmsted lived at Thunderbird Lodge, which is now home to the Rose Valley Museum and Historical Society. Beginning next weekend, the house will host an exhibit about its former resident, highlighted by a lecture on Sunday, May 19, by Delaware County historian and Swarthmore resident Nancy Webster.
