In honor of National Women’s History Month, and as a Lenten service project, members of Swarthmore’s Trinity Church are collecting monetary donations to purchase feminine hygiene products for low-income and homeless people.
Last summer, Stephanie McDonough of Wallingford posted on the Nether-Swarthmore TimeBank website that the St. Katharine Drexel Food Pantry in Chester needed contributions. Andrea Knox, a member of Swarthmore Friends Meeting, saw the post. “I figured members of the Meeting would welcome this opportunity to fight the pandemic in a constructive way,” she says. So Knox began soliciting contributions for this food pantry in the Meeting’s weekly email newsletter. She reports, “We’ve sent food to the pantry almost every week since.”
The Foundation for Wallingford-Swarthmore Schools recently donated an initial $5,000 to provide financial help to families in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District who, because of COVID-19, are facing a loss of income, health problems, or unplanned expenses. Mini-grants are available to help pay for a variety of family needs, particularly childcare, food, household items, and school supplies.
