At the Swarthmore Borough Council meeting on September 21, Swarthmore resident Samina Iqbal reported on efforts to improve accessibility in the borough. Also: council voted unanimously to prohibit overnight parking on several streets near Michigan Avenue and the Environment Committee moved that council approve the purchase of 12 trees through the Tree Tenders Program. Council also voted unanimously to keep parklets in the center of town through the end of 2020.
This October, the Delaware County Arts Consortium will present nearly 50 events as part of its second annual Delco Arts Week (October 3 - 10). Because the pandemic has made in-person activities less feasible, this year’s Delco Arts Week will celebrate the community’s arts and culture primarily through online events.
At noon this Saturday, September 28, ACT@ Furness, join members of the community in celebrating diversity in the arts at the Helen Kate Furness Free Library in Wallingford. Musical groups from the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District, an open mic for community members, art on display, and a Shakespearean twist on Star Wars await your enjoyment.
In the coming week, Delaware County will become a festive carousel of art and artists, and on Saturday, Swarthmore will be its hub. The Fine Arts and Craft Festival, presented by the Community Arts Center, returns to Swarthmore for its fifth consecutive year this Saturday, September 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. It’s one of the first events in the first-ever Delco Arts Week, which involves more than 50 events and exhibitions across the County through Sept. 29.
