Sportswriter Pagano to Speak at Delco Press Club Lunch
Sportswriter, author, and Faces on the Main Line host Richard Pagano will be the speaker at the Delaware County Press Club’s end-of-season luncheon, to be held at the Inn at Swarthmore on May 19, from noon to 1 p.m.
Since 1987, Pagano has written over 1,700 weekly columns about former sports personalities from Delaware County. These popular profiles have appeared in Town Talk newspapers and News of Delaware County. He has also written two books: Delaware County Sports Legends and The Baron of Leiperville: The Life and Times of James F. Dougherty, a biography of a larger-than-life sportsman whose hotel, bar, and fight arena in Leiperville, Pennsylvania, was a mecca for boxing from 1916 to 1947.
Pagano was a health and physical education teacher in the Upper Darby School District for 36 years before retiring in 2010. He is a member of the Delaware County Athletes Hall of Fame and the Delaware County chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, and has been named “Outstanding Sportsman of the Year” by the Ridley Old Timers Hall of Fame.
Tickets for the luncheon are $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers. Reservations are recommended, but guests can choose instead to pay at the door with cash or by check or credit card.
