Rose Valley Minquas Trail Marker Stolen
A 1926 Pennsylvania state historical marker noting the location of a branch of the Great Minquas Trail has been stolen from its site on Rose Valley Road, according to Sue Keilbaugh of the Rose Valley Museum and Historical Society. The 4-foot-tall bronze marker consists of a plaque designed by Charles H. Stephens and a beaver sculpture by Albert Laessle. Keilbaugh says it was taken some time between 5 p.m. on April 3 and 4 p.m. on April 4.
The Great Minquas Trail runs between the Susquehanna River and Philadelphia, and was used by Native Americans and European fur traders as early as the 17th century.
The Borough of Rose Valley is offering $5,000 for the return of the artwork unharmed, no questions asked. The museum will also ask the FBI to add the plaque and sculpture to its national file of stolen art, Keilbaugh reports.
