Downie Resigns From School Board
Michele Downie, a member of the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District’s board from Region 2, has resigned from her seat. Board president David Grande announced her resignation at Monday’s school board meeting. Downie had been a district school director since 2018.
In a letter to the community, Downie wrote, “It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to have been elected as a school director and entrusted with responsibility for the growth and development of your children. I’ve taken that charge, and your trust, extremely seriously.”
Because she was holding multiple leadership roles, she said, she felt unable to continue to be “the knowledgeable school director, the innovative nonprofit board president, the inspiring training director, and the fully engaged parent that I yearn to be.”
Grande thanked Downie for her board service, calling her “a fantastic contributor.” He said that her replacement will be appointed soon.
