Auditions for Young Musicians
The Delaware County Youth Orchestra and the Young Musicians’ Orchestra will hold video auditions on May 14, 15, and 16 for the 2021-22 season. Students from all geographic areas, who play any orchestral instrument, are welcome to audition. We are hopeful that rehearsals, once they start, will be able to be held in person.
The Delaware County Youth Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Andrew Hauze, is a highly selective ensemble of talented musicians in grades 7 through 12. Now in its 48th season, this full symphony orchestra currently has 92 student members. It provides young people of exceptional ability with an opportunity to rehearse and perform major works from the standard symphonic repertoire. Three concerts are performed during the academic year. Although the orchestra’s home base is in Delaware County, members also come from Chester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, as well as from New Jersey, and Delaware.
The Young Musicians’ Orchestra, conducted by Nicholas Pignataro, is for intermediate-level musicians in grades 4 through 12. Most of its players are in seventh, eighth, or ninth grade. It rehearses weekly and performs two concerts during the academic year. The orchestra’s repertoire consists of standard original classical works and high-quality high-school-level arrangements of classical works.
